In Mwanza, a city on the banks of lake Victoria, the markets are packed with people dressed in brightly coloured kangas selling fruit and vegetables from plastic sheets on the floor.
Colours, smells and sounds are all turned up a notch in Tanzania, especially in markets. The smell of exhaust fumes fuses together with over ripe bananas and pineapples. Vendors haggling prices, dala-dala, boda boda and bajaji engines running, fundis offering their services and people selling their goods.
This painting tries to capture the hustle and bustle of that scene.
